Introducing the Barefoot Book Club!

Above all else, we love a good story. It’s kinda our thing. There are so many to read and tell and no two are alike. It’s exciting to think that after years of reading them and telling them, we haven’t even scratched the surface.

This is one of the reasons we are thrilled to launch the Barefoot Book Club! Every other month, starting in February, the Barefoot team will gather to read a book. Each book will be thoughtfully selected for its alignment with our values and ability to help us better understand the world.

Our team is so excited to dive in and we’d love it if you would join us! To stay on the same page (ha), we’ll share some guiding questions and thoughts on Barefoot’s social media throughout the month. Though we’re upset we can’t do a book club in person right now, we’re looking forward to connecting virtually through stories.

Now it’s time to announce our very first Barefoot Book Club book! In February and March, our team will read Behold the Dreamers by Imbolo Mbue. Mdue’s debut novel follows Cameroonian immigrants on their quest to make a better life for their family in New York City. Mbue craftily interweaves themes of marriage, race and class into this compelling portrait of an immigrant family during The Great Recession.

Let’s start flipping the pages together. Stay tuned for more updates on our social media, and follow along with the hashtag #BarefootBookClub. We can’t wait to go clubbin’ together.
