OurChallenge
Maiker Housing Partners is an affordable housing organization dedicated to socially conscious community building. To achieve this mission, Maiker’s Family and Community Vitality (FCV) team invests in its residents’ power through community organizing, resource navigation, education and training, and partnerships with other agencies. This work supports nearly 1,500 Maiker community residents at six properties across Adams County.
To connect with residents, the FCV team engages in various communication strategies, including text messages, community boards and in-person relationship building. To increase connection and expand access to resources, the FCV team enlisted the help of Barefoot PR to create a monthly email newsletter to share the community events and resources offered to Maiker community members.
OurSolution
Using the information shared by the FCV team, Barefoot PR built an email campaign for Maiker residents called the Community Connector. This monthly newsletter, distributed to nearly 1,500 Maiker members, showcases resources to support the wellness, financial literacy and community safety of residents. It also showcases Maiker property updates, community organizing opportunities, resident spotlights and more.
To increase the readability of the content, Barefoot drafts newsletter content to be direct, clear and concise. We also incorporate visuals throughout the newsletter to promote engagement and readership. To enhance accessibility, the newsletter is translated into Spanish. The team also produces a printable version that is posted on the community board at each Maiker community to reach residents without email access.
The newsletter has consistent engagement numbers and has resulted in more Maiker community members accessing essential resources and services.
