Barefoot’s Newest PR Associate on Embracing Biculturalism (and Snow) in Colorado

When I migrated to this country at the age of 11, I was in awe of the diversity of people and cultures in my new community. English was not my first language, and although adjusting to a new culture was challenging, I quickly fell in love with my new world. I learned so much in those first few years, from small everyday hurdles like dealing with snow to larger, more personal questions about my identity as an immigrant and what that meant in my new life.

I feel incredibly fortunate to be bicultural, having gained unique experiences that have helped shape my perspectives and principles. Finding oneself is a difficult journey filled with tough questions and ambiguity, and as an immigrant, these aspects can become even harder to define. Nonetheless, it was a challenge I embraced because I knew it would lead to a better version of myself.

As I grew up and became embedded in my community, I realized how lucky I was to live in Colorado. I learned to appreciate Colorado’s snowstorms and treasured the diversity and progressive values its citizens uphold. Most importantly, I fell in love with the people and their deep appreciation for one another, their ability to address issues with compassion and the supportive network of organizations aimed at uplifting disadvantaged populations.

I have always wanted to embody these principles and give back what was given to me. That’s one of the many reasons my work focuses on nonprofits and organizations that are intentional about their impact in the community. I’m passionate about investing in my community and creating opportunities for everyone. My collaborations with community members, organizations and leaders have taught me to be intentional, attentive, courageous and, above all, compassionate.

Now, as I enter a new chapter with Barefoot PR, I am overjoyed with excitement. Barefoot PR’s mission and values align perfectly with my own and I feel so fortunate to work alongside such a dedicated team of women. I’m eager to help nonprofits and organizations across Colorado reach their fullest potential through meaningful messaging, creative content and intentional communication.
