Highlighting Dual-Format Storytelling in an Annual Report
Our Challenge
The Boettcher Foundation has invested in the future of Coloradans for decades, and they wanted an Annual Report to match their ambitious legacy. Building on the momentum of their 2025 Ripple Effect Leadership Practitioners event, they desired a report that pushed creative boundaries. In addition, they wanted both a printed report that would highlight their major accomplishments and annual highlights for distribution to scholars, trustees and other stakeholders, as well as a fully built-out digital experience that brought the breadth of their “Ripple Effect” to life.
Our Process
Barefoot PR’s design team collaborated with the Boettcher Foundation’s team to determine how to bring the “Ripple Effect” theme to life. We played with vector wave graphics, wavy lines and used the secondary blue from their color palette as a main element.
Each page received a custom layout, tailored to its content, with the Ripple Effect theme woven throughout as a cohesive visual throughline. We utilized the Ripple Effect theme to visually connect ripple effects through different stories throughout, and used color and texture-based backgrounds to organize content.
For the digital version, the Boettcher team didn’t merely want a PDF on their website. They wanted a report that turned every printed page into a digital experience. We rethought the report navigation to enhance the user experience on their website, while ensuring it met key standards in accordance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, including proper color contrast, adding alt text to images and guaranteeing compatibility with accessibility tools like screen readers.
Our Solution
The 2025 Ripple Effect Annual Report features spreads that speak to one another across pages, spotlighting key impact numbers, quotes from students and fellows, and illustrated maps tracing the Boettcher Foundation’s reach across Colorado and beyond. Water-themed graphic elements and purposeful layouts reinforce the Ripple Effect theme throughout.
We reimagined the digital report as a microsite utilizing the same visual themes as the printed report while taking the story further with animated statistics, interactive maps, and curated links to podcasts, articles and other published content to guide viewers to explore the rest of the site.
Key Highlights
- Dual-Format Storytelling
- Accessibility-First
