Spreading the word about essential crisis support services through media relations.

In the spring of 2020, Mile High United Way (MHUW) was the go-to resource in metro Denver for all who required emergency assistance and access to housing, shelter, food, childcare and other human services. Facing an unprecedented increase in requests for assistance, MHUW’s communications team was understaffed and stretched thin.

Barefoot PR stepped in quickly to work with the internal team to prioritize announcements, draft talking points and calls to action, and create a pitch plan in this rapidly changing world. Together, we launched rapid response funding in partnership with the Colorado Governor’s office, publicized 2-1-1 emergency resources in English and Spanish-speaking media, and worked with MHUW’s partner agencies to share timely updates.

Over the course of just a few months, our team took the lead in securing more than 25 positive media stories about MHUW, its programs and/or its partnerships in local media outlets and ensured the MHUW brand and messaging remained consistent throughout this period of uncertainty.
