Our Challenge
Boulder County consists of various sub-departments that help contribute to the county’s success. As an approved on-call design agency, Barefoot PR’s goal when collaborating with Boulder County is to strategically apply our design expertise to each department’s personalized needs and to the county’s overall design and ADA accessibility standards. Each department envisions specific design collateral for displaying the necessary information. Barefoot then determines the best method to go about bringing such visions to life, including assigning the designer that best meets the project’s needs and the best medium or format for each project.
Our Solution
Our work with Boulder County has spanned several departments with specific design needs and branding. Here are a few examples of projects we’ve worked on:
- The Boulder County Parks and Recreation department needed a way for staff to create annual impact reports. These slide decks had to be easily customizable, adhere to Boulder County’s design and accessibility guidelines, and present different visualizations of the information. Barefoot chose to develop the templates in Microsoft PowerPoint because it was the most accessible platform for staff without graphic design experience. Barefoot developed two separate slide deck templates that incorporated the county’s color palette and considered accessibility requirements, including alt text, reading order and color contrast.
- The Board of County Commissioners wanted to showcase the progress made each year toward achieving its Strategic Priorities plan. The plan spanned three years, and they wanted to showcase each year’s progress while making the information visually appealing and easy to digest. Barefoot created a report that displays the content in a colorful manner, with data infographics so readers can easily skim. The report also meets the digital WCAG Level AA standards.
- Mobility for All (M4A), a Boulder County program focused on improving transportation access for all community members, hoped to develop collateral to expand its reach across the county. This included an informational brochure, one-pagers and flyers, annual report, social media graphics, posters and table signage. Barefoot utilized Mobility for All’s newly refreshed branding to create a range of collateral that clearly communicated their services, elevated their visual identity and remained fully compliant with WCAG Level AA standards. Barefoot also utilized Canva to create these designs, so the team could use the files and make their own edits in the future.
Results
Barefoot PR did a fabulous job in all steps of the process: communications, setting and sticking to timeline, listening to and incorporating our needs and change requests, delivering a beautifully designed product, and providing an all-around pleasant and professional experience!
