OurChallenge
Serving as a liaison between the City of Denver and its nonprofit sector, the Denver Office of Nonprofit Engagement (D-ONE) has always recognized the critical role nonprofits play as partners in solving some of Denver’s most challenging problems. As the influx of COVID-19 relief and American Rescue Plan Act funds began to fade, D-ONE forecasted significant funding challenges ahead for the nonprofit sector. D-ONE engaged Barefoot PR to create a campaign designed to engage influential business, philanthropic and government leaders in solving this funding challenge and to bring nonprofit leaders to the table as equal contributors to the city’s economic development and overall success.
OurSolution
Barefoot PR created Nonprofit Strong, a citywide campaign celebrating the contributions of Denver’s resilient nonprofit sector and calling on the community to financially invest in it. By channeling the spirit of a social movement, the campaign engages civic influencers to spread the message. It also educates key leaders on the gaps the nonprofit sector fills, draws attention to the workforce needs and numbers, and reinforces the need for consistent funding. Our work has included:
- Recruitment and ongoing engagement of six ambassadors representing leadership from local government, philanthropy and business/economic development
- Development of the campaign brand, visual assets, landing page, ambassador videos and various collateral
- A launch event in partnership with the City & County of Denver Office of Economic Development and Opportunity
Engagement with the offices of two Mayors over the course of a mayoral transition - Coordination with appointed commissioners to the Denver Commission on Nonprofit Engagement
- Planning for ongoing engagement in future years
