Turning a Passion for Soccer into a Passion for Community: Meet Barefoot’s Spring Intern

Growing up, I always struggled to find my why. I had engaged in many activities trying to find what brought me a sense of comfort and joy, but none of them felt quite right. It wasn’t until my mother introduced me to soccer—a huge part of my Brazilian culture—that I knew I had found my passion.

Soccer was not only a game that I loved to play and that provided me with educational opportunities—it also allowed me to discover my passion for uniting people. I would stand on the field and feel the electric energy of game days, the way it lights people up inside, and the lasting memories created as a fan and player. As I have continued to play soccer, I have been able to navigate how I can take this passion for uniting communities into my future career.

As a marketing major at MSU Denver, I want to unite communities by applying the power of storytelling, branding and community engagement. Being a part of various teams and organizations, I have witnessed the behind-the-scenes of crafting messages that resonate with many. When I began looking for internships and came across Barefoot PR, the first thing that stood out was the diverse and inclusive services provided. It is a goal of mine to provide the joy and unity that I experienced in soccer for many different communities. From that point on, I knew that Barefoot would be the perfect place for me to start my journey!

Since I started my internship at Barefoot, I have been able to be a part of an amazing and supportive team. I hope to learn the qualities and efforts required to make positive contributions to the community and build upon my knowledge of public relations. I have witnessed that through their work with nonprofit organizations, Barefoot is indeed making an impact that lasts.
