Humanizing Google in Colorado through community-focused storytelling

OurChallenge

With a name as ubiquitous as Google, it is easy to forget the company is made up of employees who are your neighbors, friends, and caring community members. Google’s Boulder team hired Barefoot PR in 2019 to help put a face to the name by working with the media to tell stories of the good work happening in Colorado as a result of Google’s local team.

OurSolution

Barefoot PR has worked closely with Google.org to localize Google’s nationwide community investment efforts, including Grow with Google Colorado, the Google.org Colorado Impact Challenge and the local launch of Google’s Environmental Insights Explorer (EIE). Our team also supported the announcement of Bhavna Chhabra, the new Site Lead for Colorado. We focused on stories that included her personal story, as well as her expertise and vision for Google in Colorado. Over the course of 2020, Barefoot PR also helped Google to tell the story of the company’s COVID-19 response, including Google’s role in developing and launching the COVID-19 exposure notification app in Colorado in partnership with the State of Colorado and Apple. Since 2019, our work has resulted in:

  • More than 75 stories in local and regional media outlets
  • Partnerships with Colorado-based civic and charitable organizations to enhance the company’s community commitment locally
